You Asked, We Answered! Frequently Asked Questions from Patients like You

Can I receive sedation for my dental appointment?

Yes! We provide two types of dental sedation: nitrous oxide (a.k.a. “laughing gas”) and oral conscious.

Nitrous oxide sedation is a gas administered through a low-profile mask that will fit comfortably over your mouth. Within seconds, you’ll start to feel calmer and more relaxed – possibly even a bit euphoric. Nitrous oxide is best for those with mild symptoms of anxiety or sensitivity.

Oral conscious sedation is taken by swallowing a pill. It provides stronger effects than nitrous oxide and is often the better option for those with moderate to severe symptoms. You’ll likely feel groggy for a few hours after your treatment with oral conscious sedation, so it’s important to make sure you have reliable transportation to and from our office.

Describe your needs to us in as much detail as possible, and we’ll help you choose the option that’s best suited for your situation.

How long will I have to wear clear aligners?

Ultimately, it will depend on the severity of your misalignment. Clear aligners can generally straighten out a smile within 12 to 18 months, but the process could take longer if your teeth are excessively crooked or your bite is significantly uneven.

Rest assured, Dr. Pedersen will be able to give you a more precise timeline estimate after examining your X-rays.

What counts as a dental emergency?

Anything from dental sensitivity to a knocked-out tooth! Dental emergencies can vary in severity, but one thing they all have in common is that you need help, and fast. Call our office and describe your situation in detail. Based on your symptoms, our team will be able to help you schedule a timely appointment. When it comes to your oral health, it’s much better to be on the safe side, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team if you’re concerned about abnormal dental symptoms.

How often should I visit the dentist?

Twice a year, or roughly every six months. Visiting a dentist for regular checkups isn’t that much different from visiting a primary care physician: you do it to keep track of your health. It might not be obvious when a harmful oral condition starts brewing in your mouth, but a qualified professional like Dr. Pedersen knows what to watch out for. Biannual checkups give him the opportunity to identify potential issues early, before they become bigger problems.

Biannual cleanings are just as important. Your personal toothbrush can do a lot, but once bacteria harden into plaque or tartar, they’re much harder to remove from your smile. Dr. Pedersen can eliminate these dental troublemakers for you using his special instruments and expertise.
